Encouragers
I have a lot of great ones in my life, and I’ve been feeling especially loved and supported by them lately.
It feels great to be cheered on by other people, and to cheer others on. It puts us on the same team.
I’m awkward at taking it sometimes, just because I feel like I want to say something more than thank you. I almost wish there were different variations of thank you with each...

Today had its ups and downs.
The downs? Well, Wednesdays are usually ridiculously tiring. I went to the gym this morning since I haven’t been able to go in a while. Putting this at the start of my busiest day might not be the best plan of attack.
And I spent the entire day hungry. In between 11 am and 8 pm, I have a grand total of twenty minutes to spare. It’s so hard to fit...

not to purposely play devil’s advocate, but i’m reading Steve Jobs…and that guy had no love (for others outside his fam) and he had lots of ambition and talent. he’ll be remembered FO SHO. just thought of him when you posted
I couldn’t help but think of Steve Jobs too.
But there was a quote of...
In the process of picking a schedule
for my last quarter ever.
It looks promising right now. I have the possibility of only having six total class times to go to next quarter.
That would also give me Wednesday and Friday free, and afternoons open for work.
Not to mention, that week we have a Monday off would be pretty nice.
There’s only one downside to this draft so far, but it’s pretty big.
It would conflict with my...
This post is more of a note to myself to remember to write about this thought more in depth sometime in the future.
But today I heard a couple very interesting speeches on the topic of “success.”
I just want to point out that this world is full of people who desire success.
If you’re after it, you’re not alone. In fact, you’re on the same page with the rest of the...

striped dress.
oh, that striped dress. i remember that one. the back fit awkwardly but i never found it a problem.
it looked good.
now it’s funny. that dress slipped from my memory you slipped away yourself.
and then it was there. back. and i remembered its back. and you were back. and your hair ran down, a drape, on your back.
you were in your place. awkwardly an old home for me.
still, that striped...

So Much Happened Today
I woke up pretty early (especially by my standards) so I could take my car to get the oil changed. I was going to bring Frisco with me so we could study at the place, but he ended up sleeping in. I wound up getting a lot of work done while waiting, anyways, and then he came over after and we studied.
Then I got to help proctor the midterm for Public Speaking, and afterwards, I got to be in the...

Awake My Soul: Chapter One →
The first part of my story has been posted!
An excerpt:
I know I’ll never forget that day, because it’s effectively been ingrained in my mind as the most random experience of my life. Posing undercover as a marble exporter to Azerbaijan and Fiji with the most random group of friends and distributing marble to possible terrorist groups is definitely memorable. It was also a moment that Jared and...

Last Pass Time Ever
Classes have been up for a little while, I’ve just been too busy to look at them, really.
But on Thursday I get to pick classes for the last time here!
What to take? I think I’ve always been really good at strategically making a schedule. Except for last quarter. But that’s done.
And this time around, I get quite a bit of flexibility. All I need are two Middle-East focused...

Forgiveness. →
laurennicolelove:
Forgiveness is assuredly a process.
I like to think that forgiveness is not a human-created thing, it’s a God-created thing.
It isn’t in our nature to forgive. So many times, there are pieces of forgiveness that we don’t understand, or feel like we can’t do. And so, we must make sure sure we keep Jesus as part of our forgiveness process.
The first “step” of forgiveness is...

Today at church was emotionally intense.
A member passed away unexpectedly a few days ago. His family and fiancee were there, and their pain could be felt. It was so unexpected, and just felt so wrong.
The message was an incredibly difficult one, but I thought it was well delivered.
I keep finding myself in the presence of strong emotion lately.
I also seem to be growing hyperaware of the...

Most Random Super Bowl Party
I threw a Super Bowl party today hosting a bunch of friends and international students through Bridges.
I don’t think you could get me anymore apathetic to the Super Bowl than pitting the Patriots against the Giants. Really. Even if you threw in the Cowboys, at least I dislike them enough to really cheer on whoever they went up against- even if it was New England.
So instead, the Super...

You Spread A Message →
In the same way that I think we’re all artists with what we do and undertake every day, I think we all send a message.
The way we live our lives send a message to those around us. Our art, sends a message, and by our art, I mean those things we do everyday out of passion, for a reason.
We send a message with our lives, and this could be an inspiring message, a controversial message, an...

On The Hunt for Housing
I went on a little housing adventure with Chase for next year.
Lately, I’ve been taking inventory of who’s going to be around next year, and it seems like there’s some cool guys who I’ll have around with me in Santa Barbara.
So today I asked Chase if he wanted to go around town and look for places with me. We’re both pretty interested in downtown.
When you...
If I was in the reverse position I was in now, and only needed classes for the units, I think I would spend my last two quarters all on languages.
I would be in a position like Chris is now, where I’m way done with my major but need to just take whatever to graduate.
I would just give myself a foundational knowledge in Arabic, German, Japanese, and Russian or something. That would be kind...

Prayers Needed for Ciudad Juarez →
Here’s the situation.
Cuidad Juarez, in Mexico City is one of the world’s most dangerous cities due to its presence as a drug trafficking hub and the overwhelming activity of gangs.
When I was in Rome, I shared a room with a guy from the city, who told me his own story of having been kidnapped, shot seven times, and left for dead by drug traffickers.
The district’s police...

New Kid
Got a new kiddo to work with through the autism center, and today was my first day working with her.
It’s going to be a very different experience.
First of all, I’ll be working with a girl, which is something I’m not as comfortable with, but it’ll be a good learning experience.
It’s also my first time working with someone on the higher end of the spectrum, or...

The Trotsky
Rewatched this great film tonight with Daniel, Derek, and Jake. Such a good, funny, and smart movie.
I first found it on an Air Canada flight, and hadn’t been able to locate it since, until we found it on Netflix, and Daniel gave it its 100th review.
Boredom or apathy?
Anyways, that movie made me really want to go to Montréal. Heck, live in Montréal. It would’ve been such an...
My back has felt really weird lately.
It would get tired and sore easily, and it would feel really relieving to lay down.
Then yesterday, we were having fun and house-wrestling, so I picked up Bryce, and he unexpectedly jumped forward, forcing me to lean back really fast and catch his weight.
It felt like something that should’ve been really bad for my back.
But instead, it’s felt...

Just got back from Ian's birthday bash
Tonight, and all of today really, was a lot of fun.
It was another long day of wall-to-wall stuff, but I love the people I spent it with, Philippe’s world is very eventful at the moment.
After Real Life, I had a new guy talking to me about his life, Laura helping me find a place to stay in Portland, Ashley hearing about some travel plans, Ryan making travel plans with me, Bryce trying to...

Another Very, Very Long Day
First, I woke up kind of early, and I found Bree and Sarah making general pancakes. They let me have some.
Classes started at 11, and it was a straight shot since then.
I had Public Speaking, then Anthro, then Food and Religions.
I swear, the twenty minute gap in between Food and Religions and Global Econ are the most precious moments of every Wednesday.
I always have to rush from Global Econ...

Morning Person
As you can infer by the time I’m writing this post, a morning person is something that I am not.
But I think it might be nice.
Maybe one day I could turn into one.
In the meantime, I find it easier to keep myself awake than it is to get myself to wake up when it’s too early for me.
Also, whenever I’m about to go to bed, I discover all kinds of things I’ve just got to do...
